Zecca di Babilonia: Obolo di Alessandro Cf. Price 3606 (esemplare CNG 212).

1473809497_8l.OboloBabiloniaPrice3606CNG212.jpg.abd782f39230f51006507096fd741f5c.jpg

KINGS of MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’. 336-323 BC. AR Obol (9mm, 0.68 g, 1h). ‘Babylon’(?) mint. Lifetime issue, circa 325-323 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; controls off the flan. Cf. Price 3606. VF, toned, porous.

From the D. Alighieri Collection.
As the control marks are of the flan, the attribution to Babylon is based on the similarity of style between this coin and Price 3606, dated 325-323 BC. Obols were, however, minted widely in the East, making such an attribution tentative.

212, Lot: 33. Estimate $75. Sold for $47.

Buonasera apollonia,

1) La tua riproduzione (Price N° 1926) è una dramma mentre la mia sembra più una didramma (peso gr. 7,60);

2) Nella mia riproduzione non ritrovo le iniziali dell'incisore (Peter Sousek) sotto la cornice;

3) Nella mia riproduzione non ritrovo la "S" sotto il sedile di Zeus;

OBV: Hd. of young Herakles r. clad in lion's skin.
R: Zeus seated l. on throne holding eagle and scepter. On r. A
ΛEXANDROY. Beneath throne ram's head below eagle L and monogram PS.
