Qualche anno fa ho aperto questa discussione sulle medaglie di Alessandro Magno e familiari

 

Alcune di Alessandro raffigurano sul diritto un suo classico ritratto e sul rovescio il simbolo dell’evento che commemorano. La medaglia di bronzo coniata in occasione del X congresso della Società internazionale delle malattie infettive tenuto a Salonicco nel 1978, per esempio, raffigura sul diritto il ritratto del Grande che si trova sui medaglioni di Tarso.

Questa medaglia raffigura sul diritto il classico profilo di Eracle con copricapo in pelle di leone caratteristico dei bronzi e degli argenti di Alessandro Magno, mentre il rovescio è un insieme di soggetti che richiamano alcune monete come la clava di Eracle, parallelamente alla quale corre il nome ALEXANDROS, al nominativo e non al genitivo ALEXANDROY come appare sulle monete.

L’aquila dei bronzi tolemaici e Il corto scettro con un’estremità arcuata simbolo della sovranità egiziana fanno pensare a qualche attinenza della medaglia con Alessandria d’Egitto o l’Egitto in genere, ma non so dire di più.
