Evidently Hersh, who is listed as the source, could not positively identify the symbol either. An examination of the BM coin ( here), while not die linked, appears to be the same type. The authors of SC note in their entry for the type: “Very doubtful attribution; probably not Susian, and perhaps not even Seleucid.”

Carre è l’italianizzazione del nome greco (Kάρραι) e latino (Carrae e Carrhae) di Ḥarrān, antica città della Mesopotamia che al tempo di Alessandro Magno fu tolta ai Persiani dai Macedoni e in seguito appartenne ai Seleucidi per essere poi incorporata nel regno partico. Il suo nome è legato ai conflitti tra i re dei Parti (e poi dei Persiani) e i Romani, che vi ebbero due secche sconfitte, con Crasso (53 a. C.).

Carre fa parte delle città dell’impero dell’est di Alessandro Magno con Seleucea al Tigri, Babilonia, Susa ed Ecbatana.
