Septimius Severus, New style Eastern mint, a missing issue

 The new style Eastern Mint of Septimius Severus starts with an IMP VIII issue, followed by an IMP VIIII issue. There is then a gap in RIC, which states that the IMP X issue does not appear to occur at this mint. The legends then pick up gain with variantions of IMP XI. Curtis Clay has identified however that there is an IMP X issue but it would appear to be quite rare and all examples seem to come from a single obverse die.

I saw a few examples from the Clay collection sold by H J Berk recently, which allowed me to become familiar with the obverse die. I was then fortunate enough to spot the following example come on to the market but unrecognised as an eastern coin.

Obv:– L SEPT SEV PERT AVG IMP X, Laureate head right
Rev:– P M TR P V COS II P P, Fortuna standing left, holding rudder set on globe in right hand, cornucopiae
