Vi mostro l'ultimo acquisto: un grosso bronzo (32,5 mm) di Gordiano III per Antiochia di Pisidia, peso 22,65 g. Praticamente, un sesterzio. Al D, IMP CAES MANT GORDIANUS AVG. Al rovescio, l'imperatore togato volto a sinistra sacrifica su un altare; più a sinistra, tre insegne militari. La scritta recita: CAES-ANTIO-CH COL.

In esergo, SR. Purtroppo non ne ricordo il senso: senatus responso? senatus ratione? o altro? (magari, SENATUS ROMANUS...)

Ciao, salvo errori, dovrebbe essere Senatus Romanus ad indicare che il controllo del conio per la colonia di Antiochia (cui si riferisce l’esemplare) spettava al senato romano.

Interesting and often overlooked details on this issue include the small letters S and R on the pedestals. These mirror the large S R in the exergue and stand for Senatus Romanus, attesting some form of control of the coinage of Antiochia Pisidiae by the Roman Senate.
