Filetero (Philétairos in latino), nativo di Tio, nella Paflagonia, e figlio di Attalo, è stato tesoriere di Lisimaco che gli aveva affidato il tesoro reale depositato a Pergamo. Quando nel 283 a. C. scoppiarono le ostilità tra Lisimaco e Seleuco, Filetero parteggiò per quest'ultimo che gli lasciò il tesoro e gli concesse una notevole autonomia nell'amministrazione del territorio di Pergamo. Pur non trasformando la città in un regno autonomo, la gestì di fatto come un piccolo principato indipendente; è per questo considerato come il fondatore della dinastia degli Attalidi, futuri sovrani di Pergamo. Morì nel 263 a.C. Degno di nota il prezzo di aggiudicazione a cinque cifre raggiunto dai cinque esemplari su sei.
