The big silver dollars at the gaming tables in Las Vegas were often casualties of souvenir-hunting visitors, especially after the end of most American silver coinage in 1964-5.

 

One of the earlier of the dollar-size tokens struck to compensate for their loss was this brass piece produced about 1966 for Milton Prell’s Aladdin Hotel. Prell owned the Aladdin only from January ‘66 until not long after his stroke in 1968, but during that period—1 May 1967—Elvis and Priscilla were married there.

Bel gettone e di interesse collezionistico in quanto è la ‘regular strike version’ dei più recenti e rari gettoni in ‘Proof-like’ version, come questo in eBay con una descrizione molto dettagliata.

 

 

You are bidding on a genuine ALADDIN hotel/casino $1 gaming/slot token (1966 Franklin Mint "Proof-like" version, obsolete token, property became Planet Hollywood in 2007) from Las Vegas, Nevada. "Proof-like" tokens are limited edition versions made by the mint (Franklin Mint) for collectors/presentation, they are usually identical to the casino's regular strike version, except they are struck with a highly polished/reflective finish and produced in very limited quantities. This token is a standard 35 mm or 1.37" inch diameter (standard $1 slot size from 1965-2000s, slightly heavier at 0.8 oz vs. the standard 0.7 oz.) and made from Solid Franklin Brass. Around 2000-2500 proof-like sets and 500 full proof sets were produced each year from 1965-1969 (each year had a different design). Today, the number of existing uncirculated condition proofs or proof-likes are likely a fraction of that.

Very few, if any casinos use metal casino tokens in slot machines anymore due to electronic ticketing introduced during the early 2000s. The majority of casino tokens were destroyed by their respective properties and the limited amount of existing (especially well-preserved) ones kept by customers will continue to climb in value as the years go on. Because they are rare, casino slot tokens make for excellent gifts/souvenirs and collector's pieces! Get them before they are gone forever!

Il tuo gettone mi ha ricordato Elvis Presley, il re del rock’n’roll di cui è stato anche detto ‘dalle baracche di Tupelo agli hotel di Las Vegas’. E proprio all’Hotel Aladdin Elvis ha sposato Priscilla il 1° maggio 1967.

 

 

La cerimonia fu celebrata in forma strettamente privata, con un ristretto numero di invitati formato dalle rispettive famiglie e dagli amici di vecchia data della coppia.
