50-reichspfennig di 1927-1944

La settimana scorsa ho trovato un tedesco 50-reichspfennig del tipo 1938-39 in una casella di posta indesiderata. Una moneta forte e un buon acquisto a US$ 0,20. È un interessante moneta e parte di una serie che ha resa più interessante perché la sua date (e tipi) sono fuori sequenza.

 

A partire dai giorni di Weimar Germania rilasciato un bell'aspetto 50-reichspfennig in nichel per sostituire la sua breve durati tipi di alluminio-bronzo 50 pfennig. Tranquillo le orecchie del frumento sono finiti. (Forse, ascoltando indietro al 1870, a causa della confusione tra i 50- e monete di 10-pfennig?) Il nuovo tipo di "Aquila" di 1927-38, qui come una moneta datato 1928 da Stoccarda:

La Cecoslovacchia era paralizzata a Monaco nel 1938 e nel 1939, la Polonia fu invasa, così il nichel nelle monete 50-reichspfennig della Germania presto avuto altra occupazione. Per sostituirli l'alluminio 50-reichspfennig del 1935 fu preso dal magazzino e rilasciato alla circolazione nel dicembre 1939. Ci si unirono ancora un altro nuovo tipo (1939) 50-reichspfennig, di alluminio di guerra, con questo un secondo anno parte da Berlino 1940:

 

 

La produzione di questo tipo di finale 50-reichspfennig terminò nel 1944, ma circolò qualche anno dopo di che. E poi una moneta un po ' più felice ha debuttato nel 1949.

Last week I found a German 50-reichspfennig of the 1938-39 type in a junk-box. A tough coin, and a good buy at US$0.20. It’s an interesting coin, and part of a series made more interesting because its dates (and types) are out of sequence.

 

Beginning in the Weimar days Germany issued a good-looking 50-reichspfennig struck in nickel to replace its short-lived aluminum-bronze 50-pfennig types. Gone are the peaceful wheat-ears. (Perhaps, hearkening back to the 1870s, because of confusion between the 50- and the 10-pfennig coins?) The new “Eagle” type of 1927-38, here as a 1928-dated coin from Stuttgart:

 

 

Germany was increasingly restless as the 1930s progressed, and Nazi planners—mindful of the strategic metals crunch experienced during the Great War—caused aluminum 50-reichspfennig coins to be struck and stockpiled for an emergency that might require the sudden recovery of the nickel 50-reichspfennig coinage. Here is an Stuttgart-mint example of the 1935 aluminum type, which remained in storage for some years before its issue:

 

 

In the meantime, production of the old “Eagle” 50-reichspfennig continued until a replacement featuring the Nazi Hakenkreuz was introduced in 1938. These coins, interestingly, continued the pure nickel composition of the old Weimar type. But why not…coinage is one way to disguise the stockpiling of a strategic metal like nickel. Here is my (junk-box) example of Berlin’s 1938 50-reichspfenning, of the short-lived type of 1938-39:

 

 

Czechoslovakia was crippled at Munich in 1938 and Poland was invaded in 1939, so the nickel in Germany’s 50-reichspfennig coins soon had other employment. To replace them the aluminum 50-reichspfennig of 1935 was taken out of storage and issued to circulation in December, 1939. There they joined yet another new (1939) 50-reichspfennig type, of wartime aluminum, with this a second-year piece from 1940 Berlin:

 

 

Production of this final 50-reichspfennig type ended in 1944, but it circulated a few more years after that. And then a somewhat happier coin debuted in 1949.

Come ho scritto questo ho pensato qualche conversazione che abbiamo avuto alcuni anni fa sulle orecchie del frumento e il simbolismo che talvolta li frequenta. Che era una buona conversazione—e continua a restare con me...
